Asian market report (2019-02-04)

Despite the low liquidity in the market due to Chines New Year holiday, Japanese and Australian shares ended today’s session in the green territory while Hong Kong, China, and South Korea markets were closed.


Japanese Stock Market:

Japanese stocks ended today’s session up as market’s main index added 0.48 percent to end higher at 20,883.77 boosted by the gains in Energy and Healthcare sectors.

Regarding individual stocks, the top performers were Chiyoda Corp that rose by 6.48 percent and Mitsui E&S Holdings Co Ltd added 4.61 percent.

On the other hand, Oki Electric Industry Co Ltd and Sony Corp tumbled by 8.49 percent and 8.07 percent respectively.

In the forex market, the Japanese Yen fell against the U.S. Dollar to trade at 109.898 USDJPY at 10:30 GMT.


Australian Stock Market:

Australia’s main index S&P/ASX200 ended the session in the green and increased by 0.48 percent or 28.40 points to end the session at 5,891.20 boosted by the gains in Telecommunications Services, Utilities and Energy sectors.

In the corporate space, Western Areas Ltd was the top performer adding 5.70 percent. On the other hand, Steadfast Group Ltd was the worst performer falling by approximately 6 percent.

In the currency market, the Aussie fell versus the U.S. to trade at 0.72468 AUDUSD at 10:40 GMT.
