Equity markets across Europe settled lower today as shares witnessed sharp declines due the reports stating that the US President Donald Trump asked the former FBI Director James Comey to end a probe into the former national security advisor, thus rising political concerns over the US President’s growth supporting policies.
Moreover, the weakening US Dollar that lent support for the European Euro and the Great British Pound also weighed on the market.
British equity market settled in the red after today’s trading session, despite witnessing a slight recovery near the session’s end.
The FTSE 100 fell by 0.25% or 18.56 points to close at 7503.74 led by Financials, Industrials and Basic Materials sectors, in spite of the gains in Utilities and Energy sectors.
At the session’s end the losers outnumbers the gainers by nearly 65%, with 62 losers, 38 gainers and one flat.
The session’s best performers on the FTSE 100 were, Fresnillo PLC rising by 2.75%, Tesco PLC adding 3.85 points and Kingfisher PLC gaining 2.09% to settle at 364.38.
The session’s worst performers on the FTSE 100 were, Ashtead Group PLC falling by 3.82%, CRH PLC dropping 100 points and British Land Company PLC shading 3.34% ending at 651.03.
German stock market fell during today’s red colored trading session, as all sectors settled lower led by Financials, Healthcare and Industrials sectors.
The DAX shaded 1.35% or 172.92 points ending at 12631.61 in a trading session that has a single gainer and 29 losers.
The session’s best performers on the DAX were, Thyssenkrupp AG rising by 3.05%, SAP SE losing 0.27 points and Prosiebensat 1 Media SE settling slightly lower at 37.
The session’s worst performers on the DAX were, Deutsche Bank AG falling by 3.49%, Vonovia SE dropping 1.205 points and Heidelbergcement AG shading 2.89% ending at 83.10.
French equities were down with all CAC 40’s shares in the red without a single gainer; CAC 40 fell by 1.63% or 88.21 points to settle at 5317.89.
Today’s fall was led by Financials, Technology and Basic Materials releasing the worst declines
The session’s best performers on the CAC 40 were, Carrefour SA shading 0.3%, Total SA lost 0.25 points and Bouygues SA settled marginally lower at 38.285.
The session’s worst performers on the CAC 40 were, BNP Paribas SA falling by 3.12%, Publicis Groupe SA dropping 2.08 points and ArcelorMittal SA shading 2.93% to close at 6.657.
