European equities closed Thursday’s session in negative territory as investors reacted to the decision of FED to keep the interest rate on hold as it is expected, where FTSE100, DAX30, and CAC40 fell by 0.12, 0.76 and 0.06% respectively.
The top performer in Eurozone was Food and Beverage sector, where its stocks rose by 1.3% after strong earnings news. Although the net profit of Deutsche Bank for the second quarter came higher than market expectation where its profit came double of last year net profit, its stock declined sharply by 6.4%. The refining of oil and gas and the chemical business supported the largest oil firm in Eurozone Royal Dutch Shell as it reported an increase in their net profit reaching 72.13.
However, Healthcare stock fell by 1% after the British Pharmaceutical AstraZeneca reported that, their combination of two new oncology drugs failed to shrink lung cancer tumors, its share dropped by 15% reaching the lowest level since 5 months. On another hand, another Pharmaceutical company, Indivior increases its profit expectation after the achieved 4% rise in the first half revenues.
UK’s equities ended Thursday’s session lower after losses in Tobacco, Automobiles & Parts, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Electrical sectors led equity prices lower. The Kingdom’s main benchmark FTSE 100 fell by 0.12% to last trade at 7443.01.
Today’s gainers outnumbered the losers on the FTSE 100 with 71 gainers, 29 losers and 1 shares remained flat.
The best performers on the FTSE 100 are Diageo PLC who rose by 5.99% to end at 2419.74, while Rentokil Initial PLC gained 5.82% to settle at 289.12 and Next PLC ending 3.89% higher to last trade at 3931.00.
The worst performers on the FTSE 100 are, AstraZeneca PLC that tumbled by 15.41% to trade at 4306.85. Meanwhile, SSE PLC dropped 5.48% or 80 points to last trade at 1389.99 and Provident Financial PLC ending the session 2.47% lower at 2093.90.
German equities market ended the session in the red; Equities were pressured by falling in the Chemicals, Industrials and Construction sectors. German benchmark DAX 30 dropped by 0.76% to settle lower at 12,212.04.
Today’s losers outnumbered the gainers on the DAX30 with 17 losers, 13 gainers and 0 shares remained flat.
The best performers on the DAX 30 are, Vonovia SE, who increased by 1.49%, followed by Allianz SE who gained 1.36% % and Continental AG rose 0.95%.
The worst performers on the DAX 30 are Deutsche Bank AG that fell by 6.48%, Meanwhile Deutsche Boerse AG lost 3.75%, and Bayer AG is ending 2.95% lower.
Moreover, the French stock market also was lower in Thursday’s session as losses incurred in Oil & Gas, Consumer Services and Basic Materials sectors led equities downwards. French benchmark CAC40 closed 0.06% lower to settle at 5186.95.
Today on the CAC40 the gainers were tied with the losers with 20 gainers and 20 losers, while 0 shares remained unchanged.
The best performers on the CAC 40 were, Schneider Electric SE that rose by 3.78%, followed by Nokia Oyj that gained 3.14 % and ArcelorMittal SA ended the session 1.43% higher.
The worst performers on the CAC 40 are Accor SA who fell by 3.21%, while Airbus SE lost 3.19% and Veolia Environnement SA falling by 1.67 %.
