European equities continued closed the session in the red due to the losses generated by Tobacco and Technology sectors, where FTSE100, DAX30, and CAC40 fell by 1.00%, 0.40%, and 1.07% respectively. Moreover, the only sector which gained in the region during today’s session was the sector of Oil & Gas.
As U.S food & Drug Administration said that they would decrease the nicotine in cigarettes to non-addictive level, tobacco stocks dropped sharply today, also, on the back of declining in Amazon.com earnings in the previous session, the Tech stock fell on Friday.
The stock of the maker of Marlboro and Parliament brands (Altria Group) dropped by more than 17%, and the stock of British American Group (Camel, Lucky, Newport and Strike owner) dropped by 7% due to the new regulation in the industry.
However, despite the positive net profit data in the largest Bank in Switzerland (UBS), where the bank reported an increase of 14% in its net profit, the stock of the Bank fell by 3% due to the concerns ahead of the bank’s outlook.
Moreover, Barkley’s reported 1.21 billion Pound as net losses in the second quarter of this year, its share down by 1.6%. However Adidas stock surged as its second quarter earnings report showed an improvement in the company’s outlook for the whole year in.
UK’s equities ended Friday’s session lower after losses in Tobacco, Chemicals and Industrial Engineering sectors led equity prices lower. The Kingdom’s main benchmark FTSE 100 fell by 1.00% to last trade at 7368.37.
Today’s losers outnumbered the gainers on the FTSE 100 with 88 losers, 13 gainers and 0 shares remained flat.
The best performers on the FTSE 100 are AstraZeneca PLC rose by 3.62% to end at 4424.62, while Pearson PLC gained 1.60% to settle at 670.41 and Diageo PLC ended 1.39% higher to last trade at 2452.39.
The worst performers on the FTSE 100 are, British American Tobacco PLC that tumbled by 6.80% to trade at 4955.80. Meanwhile, Imperial Brands PLC dropped 3.79% to last trade at 3315.5 and Johnson Matthey PLC ending the session 3.65% lower at 2819.39.
German equities market ended the session in the red; Equities were pressured by falling in the Food & Beverages, Utilities and Basic Recourses sectors. German benchmark DAX 30 dropped by 0.40% to settle lower at 12162.70.
Today’s losers outnumbered the gainers on the DAX30 with 27 losers, 2 gainers and 1 share remained flat.
The best performers on the DAX 30 are, Adidas AG, who increased by 8.79%, followed by Prosiebensat 1 Media SE who gained 0.98% and Commerzbank AG remained flat.
The worst performers on the DAX 30 are Linde AG that fell by 2.15%, Meanwhile Continental AG lost 2.03%, and E.ON SE is ending 1.95% lower.
Moreover, the French stock market also was lower in Friday’s session as losses incurred in Technology, Consumer Goods and Basic Materials sectors led equities downwards. French benchmark CAC40 closed 1.07% lower to settle at 5131.39.
Today’s losers outnumbered the gainers on the CAC40 with 35 losers, 5 gainers and 0 shares remained flat.
The best performers on the CAC 40 were, TechnipFMC PLCthat rose by 3.86%, followed by Compagnie de Saint Gobain SA that gained 1.44 % and Legrand SA ended the session 0.16% higher.
The worst performers on the CAC 40 are Renault SA who fell by 5.08%, while Essilor International SA lost 4.12% and Kering SA falling by 3.82 %.
