European market report (2017-08-31)

European equities were higher today as investors are optimistic ahead of inflation data in Euro.

In Eurozone and under European Stoxx 600 index, Basic Resources and Construction sectors were the biggest gainers as both added 1.5% and 1.3% respectively on the back of ratings upgraded, and the data from China came better than expected. Moreover, Travel and Leisure sectors rose today, as it supported by the gains generated by Lufthansa which added around 3% during today’s session.

Looking at earning news, even though Pernod Ricard firm announced that their revenue for this year had been rose at 3.6% reaching 9.01 million euros, the company’s stock dropped by 2.9% as the figures did not convince investors.

On the other hand, Bouygues confirmed its earnings outlook for this year and announced that its sales increased by 3% during 2017, its stock gained 3.1% during today’s session.

In economic, the annual inflation for Eurozone came in line with expectation at 1.5% reached its highest level in four months. However, the inflation which excluded from energy and unprocessed food remained unchanged at 1.3%.

  • FTSE100:                                                                     

UK’s equities ended today’s trading session in the green territory where FTSE100 added 0.89% to settle up at 7,430.62 supported by the gains in Healthcare, Basic Materials, and Consumer Non-Cyclical Sectors.

Today’s gainers significantly outnumbered losers on FTSE100 by 85 to 15, while only one share remained flat.

The top performers on FTSE100 in today’s session were Mediclinic International PLC rose by 2.89%, Anglo American PLC added 2.82%, and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC gained 2.72%.

However, the worst performers were Provident G4S PLC as its stock tumbled by 3.21%, meanwhile St. James's Place PLC fell by 1.45%, and Provident Financial PLC International PLC lost by 1.01%.

  • DAX30:

German’s shares ended today’s session in positive territory where DAX30 added 0.44% to close higher at 12,055.84 helped by the gains in Consumer Non-Cyclicals, Industrials and Technology sectors.

On DAX 30, today’s gainer outnumbered the losers by 24 to 6, and 0 shares remained unchanged.

The best performers of the session on the DAX 30 were, Deutsche Lufthansa AG  added 3.56%, Heidelbergcement AG  gained 2.30%, and ThyssenKrupp AG advanced by 1.92%.

Meanwhile, the worst performers of the session on the DAX 30 were, Continental AG shed 0.99%, Daimler AG  lost 0.58%, and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG declined by 0.47%.

  • CAC40:

French shares were also higher today as CAC40 gained 0.58 to close up at 5,85.59 supported by the gains which generated by Industrials, Healthcare, Financials sectors.

Today CAC 40 had 30 shares, 33 gainers, 7 losers and 0 shares remained flat.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were, Bouygues SA gained 2.42%, Atos SE added 2.09%, and Credit Agricole SA rose by 2.03%.

Meanwhile, the worst performers of the session on the CAC 40 were, Carrefour SA dropped by 13.13% as the firm announced that 2017 profit could decline by 12 percent and cut its sales growth target. Credit Pernod Ricard SA was the second worst performer as its stock fell by 1.92%, and Publicis Groupe SA declined by 1.00%
