A Brief History of Tesla

The company was founded by Elon Musk and Martin Eberhard in 2003 and went public in July 2010.

The first Tesla was the roadster powered by a lithium-ion battery cells, and it costs more than a $100,000. The year Tesla celebrated its fifth birthday, Musk was named CEO and product architect, positions he still holds today.  As a CEO, Musk announces the second Tesla, the Model S, starting at $50,000, it was the first electric luxury sedan.

After Musk unveiled the Model S, deliveries began and Tesla announced its next car, the Model X, an SUV. Tesla also started building supercharging stations across California.

In 2015, the company finally launches the model X. In 2016, the Model X ranked seventh among the world's best-selling plug-in cars.

Besides the Tesla electric vehicles, the company builds clean energy generation and storage products.

Today, Tesla sells the Model X, Model S and Model 3 vehicles, Powerpack and Powerwall batteries, solar roof tiles, solar panels and other related products. Tesla has more than 15,000 vehicles on the road, and 419 super charging stations.
