European Market Report (2017-08-01)

European equities expanded their gains over the relatively positive corporate earnings data as well as the decline in oil prices.

Meanwhile, the political concerns in the US, as well as the strong Euro, kept these gains checked.

The British aircraft engine maker Rolls-Royce Holdings surged by 10 percent following its first-half net profit, while AA PLC plunged by almost 13 percent after the company announced that Bob Mackenzie had been removed as chairman of the firm for "gross misconduct."


FTSE 100

Equities in the FTSE 100 traded in the green led by the large gains the Industrials sector, with it settling higher at 7,423.66 after adding 51.66 points at today’s session’s end.

The session’s gainers significantly outnumbered the losers by 53, with 76 gainers and 23 loser and two flat stocks.

The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were, Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC surging by 10.25 percent, Intertek Group PLC adding 394 points and Direct Line Insurance Group PLC rising by 5.45 percent.

The worst performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were, Fresnillo PLC falling by 2.60 percent, Mediclinic International PLC losing 15 points and AstraZeneca PLC shading 1.73 percent.


DAX 30

The strong performance across the sectors, especially in the Utilities and Industrials sectors, led the German stock market index DAX 30 higher in Today’s up trending session to settle higher at 12,251.29 gaining 1.10 percent.

The gainer outnumbered the losers by 14 to 1, with 28 gainers, 2 losers and zero unchanged.

The best performers of the session on the DAX 30 were, Deutsche Lufthansa AG gaining 2.78 percent, Vonovia SE adding 0.76 points and E.ON SE rising by 2.22 percent.

The worst performers of the session on the DAX 30 were, Adidas AG losing 0.67 percent, Merck KGaA falling by 0.03 points and Beiersdorf AG adding 0.15 percent.


CAC 40

CAC 40 settled at 5,127.03 higher gaining 0.65 percent led the rise in several sectors, but these gains were limited by the losses in the Healthcare sector.

At the session’s end, the 31 gainers outnumbered the 9 losers with no flat shares.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were, Vivendi SA gaining 2.84 percent, Airbus SE adding 1.43 points and Nokia Oyj rising by 1.93 percent.

The worst performers of the session on the CAC 40 were, TechnipFMC PLC falling by 1.57 percent, Sanofi SA losing 1.03 points and ArcelorMittal SA shading 0.88 percent.
